Otis Claybrooke
Sunday Morning Sinner is a debut that runs on the oldest engine the blues has: Saturday night and Sunday morning living in the same man. Across thirteen tracks, Otis Claybrooke takes inventory of everything that’s ever had a hold on him — a coldwater woman, a bottle that never loved him back, the Lord he keeps half-praying to, and the red-clay South that raised him — and decides, song by song, which holds to keep.
The record is sequenced as one long night: Saturday runs tracks 1–7, from slow-burn temptation through swamp-deep surrender to the bottom of the bottle; the small hours run 8–10, all bargaining, apology, and grief; and Sunday morning breaks at track 11, when the title track walks him to the church door — tie on the chair, Bible dusted in gold — and lets him ask the only question the album cares about: “Can You take me anyway?” The last two songs answer it the way the blues always has: by going home.
“Thirteen songs about Saturday night — and the Sunday morning that has to answer for it.”
